Joe, Sandra, and Kim were an absolute pleasure to work with. I came into this shop completely stressed out after an unfortunate experience with another jeweler. Immediately, I was treated with kindness, compassion, and professionalism. Joe was honest with me about any concerns he had over the stone and design that I already had from the previous jeweler. He said the rings would be done in 2 weeks - and as I walked out of the shop, I couldn’t believe how simple and enjoyable this experience already was. They finished the rings several days early, and I am completely blown away by how beautiful & high quality they are, how quickly it was finished, and how much I enjoyed working with this family! Also, they coordinated with my (now) fiancé so that he could surprise me and I wouldn’t pick up the rings without him. It’s unfortunate we had to go through the terrible, months long ordeal with the other jeweler, but it was so worth it since it led us to Joe, Sandra, and Kim at McKay Diamonds!

Edit: Joe recently recreated my original canary diamond engagement ring for me. Both my husband and I were extremely pleased with his craftsmanship and service. Bezels are a little tricky and use more metal- Joe made sure the proportions and side cut outs were exactly right. I also didnt want my ring to sit up very high- he made it lower profile for me. I love it! Def recommend McKay!!Excellent service and quality of work. I bring all my jewelry here (silver, gold, platinum, diamond) and they always do a great job at a great price.

I’m really impressed with McKay jewelers. He made my wife’s ring look better than new. My wife lost her diamond and I wanted it fixed for Mother’s Day.He fixed it by the next day and did more than promised and made the ring look like a million dollars. Went in when I was shopping for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. Spoke to the owners daughter who was very sweet and knowledgeable, then we spoke with Joe and he was also very kind and accommodating. Then Sandra came over and joined the conversation, and this is where things went south. We were in the middle of writing up an order for a custom ring, nd when Sandra heard that my girlfriend was a size 8, she commented on how “chubby” her fingers were. Uh... my girlfriend is 5’11” and thin. Her fingers are a normal size for her stature. Can you imagine her with a size 4 ring finger? She would look ridiculous! Needless to say,, my girlfriends feelings were hurt, and we never went back.

They did an exceptional job sizing my ring, the jeweler had it done in a few minutes and finessed it until it was perfect. Fair prices and great customer service, they even cleaned my ring for me!

I cannot say enough good things about McKay Diamonds!My wedding bands that we got from a different jeweler have lost diamonds many times over the years. We were always under warranty so they would just throw a new diamond back in and call it good.Fast forward 5 years, and they went out of business, and so we lost our warranty. We then bought an insurance policy from Jeweler’s Mutual. Once again, my bands lost a diamond. We took it to McKay, and Joe and Sandra were an absolute joy to work with! No only did Joe put in a new diamond, but he noticed and fixed the actual PROBLEM with the ring, the reason diamonds were falling out to begin with.He completely redid the bands, new diamonds, new shanks, redid the prongs on the main stone of the engagement ring, resized it, the whole nine yards.I am absolutely THRILLED with how it turned out! I cannot say how much we enjoyed working with them and we will never go to another jeweler again!If you’re on the fence about where to get a ring purchased, fixed, designed, whatever it may be, go see Joe and Sandra. I love this store and the family that runs it. They are kind, take their time with you? And take pride in their work. I tried on several rings while I was there and they were so kind even though they knew I wasn’t buying and engagement ring. They also pulled out their kit that has different bands and stones with magnets on it so you can get an idea of what size, shape, and style looks best on you. I purchased several stacking rings designed and made by the owner and he sized a couple right there while I waited. They are beautiful and my style. Couldn’t be happier. I was very excited to share my ideas about a design for an engagement ring. I first met with Joe’s wife who was very kind and also excited when I described my dream ring. She urged me to come back when Joe would be in the shop. After her encouragement, I was sure that I would have a great experience.I was shocked when I met Joe. He was very rude from the get-go and he was insulting. I was so upset that I was in tears by the end of the interview.I do not mind that he didn’t care for my design, it was how he treated me that I have an objection to. He made me feel like I was an idiot.

I took my custom wedding set to get it resized. After googling and searching for jewelers in the area that were willing to work with 1) jewelry that hadn’t been purchased at their establishment and 2) a jeweler who was willing to work with palladium., I was so pleased to find McKay Diamonds was willing and able. They had done an appraisal for me several years ago but I hadn’t had them do any work on my jewelry at the time. I started with an email to ask them about my ring and the things I needed done. They were very responsive, answering all my questions within hours. I set an appointment and left my rings in their care. They came back looking brand new and you cannot tell they have been sized. They will be my one and only stop for all my jeweler needs as long as we are in SLC. Thank you for making the experience so smooth and painless (their prices are very fair and straightforward).

Ive spent months looking for the right ring and Joe spent hours over multiple visits answering my questions and showing options. No pressure at all, just showing me designs and talking about fit. One day, I saw on-line that he can melt old gold, so I brought in some of my family jewelry and he made the perfect ring. Given how long it took me to make up my mind the time line was very tight, but Joe worked extra hard and I had the ring ready just in time. I am so happy and will definitely be a customer for life.

I, too, was drawn to this place for the insanely good reviews. Unlike most reviewers, however, my need was not based on a ring or necklace; rather, I needed links removed from a watch I recently obtained. Not a Rolex or anything fancy, so I was admittedly a little intimidated bringing it to a jeweler to have the band adjusted. The 5 star reviews were totally justified. The woman who helped me (presumably one of the owners from reading other reviews) couldnt have been kinder or more patient as we kept removing links slowly so as to ensure the best fit. She was very accommodating and I will definitely suggest her shop to anyone and everyone looking for great service at fair prices.

My wife had noticed the center diamond coming loose on her ring and we looked for a jeweler conveniently located in our area; McKays popped up. In meeting with Joe, Sandra, Allen, and Kim they were able to provide the care and understanding my wife and I needed as well as addressed the issue of the loose diamond for a reasonable price; far less expensive then it would have cost to replace the entire diamond should it have been lost. We were able to set up an appointment immediately and in less than 24 hours, able to resize an engagement ring and purchase the perfect wedding band for my fiancee.There was no pressure for a sale like you feel at most stores and the prices were extremely reasonable. After 40 years, my original wedding bands were wearing thin, so I took them to McKay Diamonds. They completely re-built a new set and added another band as per my request. We went to see Joe to have a custom engagement ring made because of the 5 star reviews on google, in addition to a family members personal recommendation.We went in with just one picture and some other more abstract ideas and Joe was able to make a quick and rough sketch of what he was thinking. We wanted to shop around for different designs and pricing, since we though Joes quote was too high for a band only (we were providing the diamonds). A few hours later I got a call from Joe with a more exact, and in my opinion, a much more reasonable, quote that was substantially less. Because of the recommendations, quality of his other rings made, and the good, fair price, we decided to have him start working on it.The ring was done quickly and was true to the timeline he proposed: 10 days. The ring turned out truly amazing. Quality is excellent, and the design was beautiful and exactly what was wanted.Joe is a craftsman who really cares about, and is proud of his work. Those qualities really shine through in the final product he produces. He has an excellent eye for detail (checked if our diamonds fluoresced, something other stores didnt bother to check, and was able to spot an impurity another jeweler didnt see), was patient and willing to work with us on designs, and was willing to answer any questions I had about the process, diamonds, rings, or his job. We are proud and appreciative of the ring he made for us, and will talk about it for years and years to come.The only gripe I can think of is the box that came with the ring was not very attractive and broke shortly after being used due to the hinge coming off. I didnt think to ask if they had other options for boxes, though.

It was so easy talking to and working with Joe and Sandra! I asked Joe if he could make a gold and diamond ring for me that looked just like the inexpensive sterling piece I loved and had brought in to show him. It was an unusual wrap style ring and he duplicated it perfectly! Then with my fiance and me watching him work, he placed 3 family diamonds on the ring in just the right way we both liked. My fiance is extremely particular about jewelry while I know nothing. When I walked into McKay Diamonds & Jewelry I explained to them that I was looking for a fake or dummy ring to propose with and then give my (at the time) girlfriend the ability to come back and choose exactly what she wanted. When hearing this, the owner told me that I could pick out a real ring I like and then bring it back without penalty to have it customized or swapped out for something totally different.So, knowing that my fiance wanted a Sapphire, I picked out one that I thought was great and then went on my way. After the proposal, she had a whole handful of questions about it. Wanted to know if the setting was 100% custom, what kind of Sapphire was in it, what kind of treatment the stone has gone through, etc so we went back in to talk about it.The owner let us know that the setting was 100% created by him and that the stone itself was not an imitation stone but a Sapphire that was grown in a lab. Because it was grown in the lab it was much more vibrant than many of the fully natural stones that you will come across. After some deliberation, my Fiance made the decision that she would prefer to have a fully natural stone in the ring even if it were to sacrifice some of the beauty of it.The owner let us know that it is something that is totally doable and that he would order a couple stones for her to come back and look at and if she liked one of those he would swap it out for free. The owner was able to get the stones in the very next business day and when we went in to look at them, we found he was able to get a natural Sapphire that was really close to the brilliance of the original one (though a tad bit smaller).In a matter of minutes he put the new stone in the setting and we were on our way free of charge. I can not recommend this shop enough to anyone in the Salt Lake Valley as I feel they went above and beyond to make both me and my Fiance comfortable and happy with the engagement ring. I dont think I will be visiting any other store any time soon.

I took my engagement ring to get sized to McKay diamonds. It was worth the drive from herriman. Joe sized it while I waited. It took about 20 mins and it looks perfect, I didn’t have to leave it at the store and wait 2 weeks. Joe wants his wife Sandra are very knowledgeable and helpful. I’ll definitely be shopping with them again.

What a great place to do business! I love these guys. Joe and Sandra are amazing. Believe what everyone else writes. My (now) wife hadnt the slightest idea what kind/style/shape ring she wanted. We walked in and were immediately met by Joe and his charming smile. We tried a few rings on, Joe made some suggestions, I started getting ideas. Obviously the man loves what he does, and probably enjoys seeing the love around a central piece of many relationships. I met with him a few weeks later to game plan what I had envisioned. I also had some loose stones and an engagement ring from another lifetime. I wanted to use the best stone for my wifes ring, and sell the other. He gave me a very fair price on the estate jewelry, better than any pawn or diamond exchange. He custom made my wifes ring and hit the nail on the head. Great family-run shop. I got all my influence from the glowing reviews online, and Im not disappointed.

I absolutely love my ring! The owner of the store hand crafted it to perfection based on the design idea my new fiance gave him! When I received it via surprise proposal 2 weeks ago, it was a bit big but I went in to have it resized and they completed it right then and there while we were visiting and for no charge! I was shopping for a graduation gift for my niece -- I wanted something unique, beautiful and meaningful and was not finding in other stores. Then... I remembered McKay Jewelers... the same place my dad bought my moms engagement and wedding rings... that same awesome place on Main thats been there forever. And, I was really happy to see that it was still there -- same store, same service, same helpful attitude, even if the owner is new. They patiently listened to what I had in mind, then showed me options that exceeded my expectations but were within my budget -- one of which was perfect. They were even able to customize the gift in a way that made it extra meaningful. So... while Mr. McKay is no longer there, the new owners are continuing that same tradition of purveying excellent jewelry including the old-school type of service and quality that simply no longer exists. This place is amazing. I have a box full of antique jewelry, some just old costume jewelry and some very nice diamond rings. He was very easy to talk to, was able to repair my (around 100 year old) white gold diamond ring flawlessly and very quickly, he also cleaned all of the pieces I had with me. We will be going back to use some of the rose gold from other old rings in my box so he can make a custom wedding band for me and to pick out a band for my fiance. I HIGHLY recommend this place!

I came in to have a custom white gold wedding band made for my fiancees unique opal engagement ring because no regular band would fit with the shape. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and he completely understood when I explained that I couldnt afford much and worked with me to find something within my budget that works. He gave me a quote and didnt increase the price even when he had to do a bit more work on it than he thought. The ring looks great and fits together nicely with the engagement ring! He even did the design so that I could take the band back in and add stones to it in the future. Overall Im very satisfied and wouldnt dream of taking her ring for service anywhere else in the future.

Two years ago we found this wonder jewelry store, our daughter had just gotten engaged. She was given a beautiful antique square cut diamond ring that belonged to our son-in-laws grandmother, the band needed a few repairs. Every other jewelry store we had contacted wanted to ship this ring out to have it fixed, she did not feel comfortable shipping this ring anywhere. The store owners at McKay Diamonds and Jewelry repaired it within a few hours while she watched and sized it to fit her perfectly. They also offered to clean my wedding bands free of charge. While we were there I noticed a beautiful diamond and sapphire ring that I loved and told my daughter that someday for a special occasion I would love to have it. Well last week I turned 60 and my husband surprised me with that beautiful ring, the people at McKay Diamond and Jewelry helped him with the surprise. I can not say enough about these people so very friendly and their customer service is the best. Next time we are in Salt Lake we are going there again!

I hadnt heard of McKay Diamonds until looking for places to shop for wedding rings on google. Seeing the high ratings, I decided to swing by and give it a shot. Well, it was definitely worth it! My fiancee had a ring that she really liked but that was very tricky to find. Also, I was on a budget. We went to the store and presented the idea to Joe, the stores owner and jeweler. He was more than willing to do it, and at a price I could afford! To add to that, Joe services his rings for life--free! He also worked with me to get the ring done in time for the day I officially proposed. The ring is absolutely gorgeous--two months into our engagement and my fiancee still cant stop staring at it. Joe is a true professional, and theres a reason hes rated so high. I would strongly suggest before buying a ring anywhere else that you check McKay Diamonds out--if youre like me youll find better service at a better price!

Genuinely the best jewelry experience I have ever had. I took my ring in to have it resized and they were able to do so in a matter of hours for a fantastic price. When I came to pick it up they had trouble with my card declining because my bank locked my card for fraud suspicion. Instead of being rude or annoyed with the situation they treated me like family and were very kind, understanding and patient. It makes me happy to know there are still wonderful people in the world who are passionate about their work and believe in quality customer service; not to mention my ring looked fantastic and sparkles even more so than when i first got it. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking to be treated like family and not like any other consumer.

I walked into McKay to ask about having my ring resized down. The owners told me the stone would have to be reset, and quoted me a price. A few days later, they called to tell me it didnt need as much work as they previously thought. They said they would charge me half the original quoted cost. I was surprised at their honesty. They easily could have charged what they originally quoted. When I went to pick up my ring today I was already happy with my experience, but then I looked at my ring. It looked even better than before and they had removed a small chip in the corner of the stone. I left wowed and Ill highly recommend McKay in the future.

Im a designer (architecture student), and Ive always wanted to design my own engagement ring. Like, ACTUALLY design it, rather than sit down and pick out a list of features. I wanted one unique and special to me and my fiancee. She gave me ideas, showed me pictures of rings she liked, and I was able to design something completely new in 3D on my computer. I prepared a set of drawings for Joe, hoping that hed be able to get something close to what I had designed. I was a bit worried, having never dabbled in jewelry design before, that some of the things I had asked for would be too difficult. On the contrary, when I picked it up, it looked exactly as I had designed it. Joe is a miracle worker! He added every little detail I had drawn, and the ring came out great! He was as excited about it as I was! Not only is he a great jeweler, but he is genuinely interested in my personal story. He complimented me several times on my ability as a jewelry designer (something which I appreciated), was very excited to meet my fiancee, and wanted to know how I planned on proposing. I know that, to some people, their job is just a job, but Joe does it cause he loves being a part of that special moment in so many peoples lives. I cant say enough how proud I am to have had the opportunity to work with Joe, and the chance he gave me to design a ring that was wholly my own. It was a wonderful experience, and I would recommend him to anybody.

I had some gold that I wanted to get melted down and formed into a wedding band. Joe forged it like he was from Lord of the Rings. It was amazing. He was also nice enough to let me film the entire process, which only took about half an hour. And all this for much cheaper than I was expecting to pay! The ring looks great.

Joe was the most helpful person I spoke to in my quest for an engagement ring. I was looking to propose to my girl friend and was on a budget and had specific time restraints. Our experience at McKay Jewelers was fantastic. We went in to have a watch repaired, he noticed my broken wedding ring and asked me if I would like him to look at it. He quoted me a price and was very kind. The watches were fixed while we waited. I decided not to have my ring fixed that day. I wanted to think about it. I was never pressured. I went back the next day and he fixed my wedding ring to perfection, while I waited and watched. I am so pleased! I am from out of town and had not read any of the reviews. Another jeweler recommended McKays. They are very kind, courteous, and trustworthy, not to mention the quality of work is superb.

I needed to engrave five symbols that I had designed myself on the inside of my fiances gold wedding band and Joe didnt hesitate to take on the challenge. I drew the symbols on a piece of paper for him to reference. He worked really quickly and was able to deliver the ring much faster than I had anticipated. I was a little nervous that my designs were maybe too complicated, but I was blown away when I picked it up - it was perfect! Joe and Sandra made it possible for me to customize my fiances wedding band and make it particularly special to keep the fire alive as Joe said :) I couldnt imagine working with anyone else. I brought my wifes wedding ring in which had been cut off her finger in an emergency room incident. He not only was able to repair it perfectly, but also sized it and attached a wedding band. I needed a replacement for the lost center diamond of my wedding ring and after reading many reviews of local jewelry stores was confident that McKay Diamonds was the best place to go. I just picked up the repaired ring and it was even beyond my expectations. The jeweler chose a diamond that was a little larger than we had agreed on because he felt that the setting would be enhanced that way, and of course the end result is noticeably more attractive and there was no extra charge for the upgrade. I took my great grandmothers vintage ring to McKay to have them repair it. It needed A LOT of work, but McKay did it in one week and at a great price. It was originally in terrible condition (the band was broken, the metal work was all messed up, etc.), but McKay brought it back to life and it looked brand new. I needed to have my original wedding band strengthened as it had thinned over 27 years of marriage. As I spoke with the owners, they were very helpful and understanding of my desire to not purchase a new ring. They were able to add thickness to the ring and still preserve the design and form of the original. They did all of this in only a few days and were very accommodating to my wishes. Very professional, lovely, quaint store.

I stopped in McKay diamonds today to see if they could resize my ring and not only did they do it, Joe had it sized in less than a half an hour! The store I bought it at had a 3 week waiting period and was going to send it out for sizing, and no way I wanted to wait that long. So thank goodness I found this little jewelry store, with so many surprises inside as well! I will definitely go back, just for the fast and friendly service, as well as the beautiful product inside. I was on a business trip from Chicago and came upon McKays. I was in the market for an engagement ring looking for something unique, an honest jeweler, and value. I found all three here. Joe was great - very personable. I found what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. I gave Helen the ring in Alaska at Katmai Natl Park in the presence of our children and several Coastal Brown Bears!

When I saw only 5-star reviews, I said this simply cannot be... the store was closed on that particular Saturday, so we went to two other highly rated jewelers for opinion. Both said that what we were asking could not be done -- we have a very unique family ring that we wanted to resize without losing any of the design and that was going to be impossible... even the jeweler who made the ring back in the day said resizing will be extremely complicated... and yet Joe was up to the challenge... I dont know how many hours it took him, but when we got the ring back we were in AWE... He got it to the right size and re-matched the design so perfectly there was no way to tell the ring was altered in the first place... I would definitely go back to Joe and Sandra again and againFinally, I was worried about the price since the shop is located in the heart of downtown where the rent must be quite high -- I was proven wrong -- Joes price was very reasonable and again not sure how you can even put a price tag on a work of a true artist like Joe -- if you want your ring done right this is the place to go

Just stopped in for a repair of the metal clasp on my briefcase, which they completed in 5 minutes. Charming local store and owners. The kind of place that doesnt seem to exist much anymore. They absolutely deserve your business.

When you walk in, you are instantly greeted with a smile and feel like youre family. The rings are very clean and shiny and they are wonderfully priced. My Grandmother recently passed away and I was left her wedding rings. They had diamonds that had fallen out- some of which we had, others that needed to be replaced. I loved my experience with McKay Jewelry!!! When we came to shop, we arrived too close to closing time. Instead of turning us away, they stayed open another full hour! We had a tight budget, and they helped us find a ring we could afford. They also had a selection I wasnt finding anywhere else - my hands are long and thin, and the other stores had big chunky rings which didnt flatter my hands at all. McKay Jewelry had a delicate, beautiful ring that looked so lovely on my hand I didnt want to take it off! While we stayed and chatted that same evening, they let me custom-design a wedding band to go with my engagement ring, allowing me to make decisions all through the process of design.
