I have been looking for a new Outback for a couple of months. Big Island Motors posted 1 new one in stock late Saturday night and I immediately expressed interest (it was like 1am!) I am really fortunate that salesman Spencer Southwell was on the job! Even tho it was early morning, and a Sunday, he made the effort to contact me, give me a quote, arrange financing etc etc etc. By Monday the deal was sealed, he brought the car over to me first thing Tuesday morning - sparkling clean and a full tank of gas. I am loving my new Subaru. Thank you Spencer for being so diligent and helpful!

Spencer was a really good person to work with. Customer service was awesome and he was able to put me into a new 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport in a matter of hours. I highly recommend working with Spencer if you plan on getting a new car. Big Island Motors is the place to go!

Bought a car from them about a year ago and just finally sold it to get it off my hands. When i bought the car i definitely should have trusted my gut to not continue with the purchase. The first red flag was when nobody came to greet or check on me for about an hour, despite seeing the salesmen just hanging out. When I finally got to test drive a car, it went smoothly and found the one I wanted, but when I was just about done filling out the paper work I was informed that the car I wanted was already sold to someone... so clearly there was no communication. There was another model available that had a lot of damages hidden in the dirt of the car that i didnt notice at the time. When it came time to sign i felt pressured to sign for the hyundai. I didnt leave until about 6:30 that night despite getting there at 11am that same day. There was just a lack of communication, customer service, and rush to get me to sign so that they could go home. To try to make up for the lack of service, the man who sold me the car offered a complimentary interior cleaning the next day. I was told that I would drop my car off at 8am and be done by 11am so I could go to work. When I did so, I didnt get my car back until 5:30pm and had to wait at my workplace until i could pick it up. It wasnt until the next day that I noticed what a horrible, rushed job they did. I brought it up to the dealership, but I got a very bland response that translated into a what do you want us to do about it and you can pay for a better cleaning next time . Idk, it was not the best experience and it definitely haunts me. Ive seen what good customer service is from them through my uncle, but the side I saw was definitely not that. Their consistency in service is not good and till this day I feel ripped off. All i can say is goodluck and hopefully you dont get an experience like i did.

I had a great experience with Big Island Motors! I purchased a used Subaru Forrester from them and it was completely clean and fully serviced before purchase. Spencer was a great salesman! I didnt feel pressured at all throughout the process and he made everything go smoothly from finding the right vehicle, to applying and securing financing, and walking away with the keys. He even helped me deliver the car because I was solo the day of purchase and I had to get my rental home too! Incredible service. I highly recommend purchasing from Big Island Motors in Hilo! Ask for Spencer!

After talking to two salesman there who didn’t seem to care whether I bought a car or not, I got to speak with Myya who went above and beyond to make sure I got the vehicle I wanted even though they didn’t have one in stock. I can’t say enough about how great she was and I’m glad I got to talk to her before I gave up and went with another dealership to buy a vehicle that I didn’t want as much. Ask for Myya!

Charles Paulino is a good salesman, individually he would get 4-5 stars.The supervisor haggled more than I care for so they get a 1.The finance department didnt pull any tricks and gets a 4.The car was not cleaned before I picked it up so that gets a 2.Overall I give the place a 3.

I only have experience with phone calls or email.TLDR: The sales people dont contact you back and you miss out on vehicles. DeI had been looking for a car for months and asked a sales rep (I believe his name was Charlie) to notify me when a car that fit my price range and needs came in. I never got a single call. I ended up checking regularly and they did end up having a few in but one got bought before I could get in and the other had to be fixed but it took over a month. They did let me know it got fixed so that was nice. But by the time it was ready I was in Seattle so it got sold before I got back which I can understand if they had to wait for parts.I then contacted them again about a car but it also got sold. They did try to contact me back through email about it but their emails came into my updates box instead of my inbox and the emails looked like spam. It just said From Maile subject Your Inquiry or other generic subjects with the persons name. I wish in their names area it indicates Big Island Motors instead. Maile ended up contacting me several times which was great! I appreciated that so much as I wouldnt have ever looked at those emails. She was trying to get me in contact with Spence(June 27th) and asked if that was the right email and I gave her my current information and availability so Spencer could call or email. Maile exchanged emails several times to see if Spencer had contacted me. They didnt and Maile let me know that they would be informating their manager. I didnt hear anything for another week.Spencer had then emailed and asked if he could answer any questions (July 9th). I had again let them know what I was looking for. I never got a response.So I bought a car at another dealership!

Probably the easiest, fastest, smoothest car purchase I have ever had! My salesperson was Spencer Southwell. He is knowledgeable of the inventory. He listened to exactly what I was looking for and didnt try to sell me on something I didnt want. This dealership does not pressure you at all. I would highly recommend this dealership and Spencer! They refused to respond to all of my husbands inquiries and calls. When I as a female reached out on the site with a full price offer Johnathan responded immediately. I haded the phone directly to my husband and we eventually got a car. Johnathan was nice enough to not ghost us till we had the vehicle and drove us to our property in a vehicle big enough for our luggage. We appreciated this because HI laws are highly illegal on a federal level so it was nice to see the island residents do what was necessary to make a sale.Since having the car weve spent over $600 on repairs. I didnt realize Good to go! Perfect for your family. Meant the battery hadnt been changed in three years. Also didnt realize that the new tires I put on there to make sure your good. Meant mismatched tires, one with a leak. It needed replaced.Weve been stranded on the side of the road twice within 3 weeks, 2 of which we didnt drive because of quarantine. We wont be doing business with them again. Really sad to see such a bait and switch. We thought there was more class, live and learn.

I called to enquire about a car I saw on Craigslist and I spoke to Johnathan N. (Salesman) he told me that be the car was still available and nothing more about the car. I advised him I needed to find a ride to get there so it would be a few hours. I procured a ride and when I arrived I was told by another salesman that the car doesn’t shift into third gear so the car is worthless if it can’t travel the island. So I was stuck in Hilo with no other prospects. This man has no business being a salesman he is desperate for a sale and will tell the customer anything to get it.

Purchase a 2018 Kia Soul. The customer service was excellent. No pressure sales. Jonathan answered all our questions. I walked in with a pre-approved car loan from my credit union that I was happy with and they were able to find an even lower rate for us. Yasou, the financial guy, was very helpful as well . Explained all the options we purchased very clearly. The car was brought over from Kailua in the morning and we drove it home in the afternoon. Highly recommend.

This was my first visit to BIM. Very courteous staff. Efficient, good communication. Kept their promise on wait time while vehicle was being serviced. Accommodations in waiting area are very basic. Folding tables and chairs. Its a good thing it was a beautiful day. If was very hot or rainy, outdoor waiting area would have been uncomfortable. Sales department lacks privacy. I could clearly overhear every detail of another customers credit application as she was completing it with a salesperson. Im glad she got approved...it could have been embarrassing for her if it turned out differently.Otherwise very good social distancing and sanitation standards were maintained and politely enforced.

Just bought a 2018 Impreza from this dealership. I am very impressed with the service and professionalism that Randal and Yasuo displayed. We are very satisfied with the experience, everything went smoothly and quickly! They were willing to stay afterhours for us to drive our new car home! I was helped by Spencer to get a new (to me) Subaru! It took a long time (like it does) to get everything finalized, but I didnt get ignored or messed around. Spencer seemed to know what he was doing and worked with me to make me feel like I was getting a good deal. Im still pleased with the financing they got me, and the warranty (thanks Jason!) even after I went home and checked a few other places.

My biggest beef is with this place is that they are letting their dock work with Pasha take priority over being a car dealership. Had to bring back new car for detailing because they were loading cars. I stopped back by to pick up my plates, after my temp expired, and they couldnt find them. They texted me the next day that they had them, and then I drove back and had to wait 30 minutes for someone to get them because they were too busy unloading cars. Two extra trips into town really soured our car buying experience.

Big Island Motors has been an absolute joy to work with. The Parts department was attentive and extremely friendly and helpful and kept track of my needs with careful attention and reliable communications. The Service department was also very personable and helpful and took the time needed to attend to my needs. I would also like to mention that the shuttle driver to Hilo and back was very timely and polite and I have not had a better experience at any other dealership be it in the Continental USA or elsewhere. My new Outback keeps turning off its safety features (Eye Sight, lane warnings, etc.) when I have minor error codes caused by a drained battery or loose gas cap. This, combined with Big Island Motors service department being backed up 3 weeks or more causes me to drive without safety features several days at a time. This is horrid customer service and dangerous as well. I am beginning to regret my purchase.

Absolutely Amazing Dealership, Spencer worked with me and I’m 19 Years old with no credit, I don’t make much at my job and Spencer did everything he could to get me a good deal, at $207 a month and 10% Intrest rate for a 2012 Mazda 3 Touring Hatchback. I recommend this place to everyone looking for their first car or if you just want an upgrade! Definitely will be back again in the future.

I looked for 2 months for super clean used cars on Kona side (10k to 14k price range)- very disappointing- BIM Hilo had more nice, clean used vehicles in stock than I had seen in months of looking in Kona. Ended up buying new for just a little more but there were some exceptional used cars that made it a close decision- excellent and quick buying experience. Johnathan and Yasu were thorough and detail oriented, even texting specific pics of vehicles that interested me before making the drive over. Would definitely recommend.

Best experience ever at a dealership! Minutes after arriving, salesman Yasou Ruddle-Miyamoto asked if we needed help. He quickly understood what I was looking for and what my budget was. He showed me a car that had just been traded in that week- was exactly what I was looking for and in my price range. Paperwork was a snap, and they were flexible in the negotions.When I got home, I noticed there were some parts of the interior that needed to be deep cleaned and contacted Yasou by email. I immediately got a response from him and he told me to bring the car back in for detailing. He made it a priority when I arrived, even touching up the vents himself! Really a great experience and would recommend buying a car from Yasou at Big Island Motors!

They were very warm and friendly during the sales process. After that, not so much. They sold us a car with a leaking water pump and a blown head gasket for $4,000. Cost to repair is $4,000. They said all they could do for us is sell us another car.STAY AWAY. STAY FAR AWAY.

If you care about the safety of your friends, keiki, and the rest of your Ohana, do not buy anything from Big Island Motors. I feel absolutely violated.It was naive of me to think that a dealership would sell me a safe vehicle. I bought a used Ford Explorer from them in January from Spencer Southwell. I bought it as is, expecting only a minor thermostat issue, only to find out after the fact that not only did it need over $4000 worth of repairs to the front end, but that the problems were in fact extremely dangerous to me and everyone else on the road, problems included: destroyed wheel bearings, ball joints, CV boots, and potentially a transmission. Whether knowingly or through sheer gross negligence, it shows they do not care about your safety or well being.If you care about the safety of your friends and keiki Ohana, do not buy anything from Big Island Motors

TLDR : All around great service!I brought my car in originally for a slew of recalls as well as a coolant leak and an inoperable drivers side door. The coolant leak turned out to be the water pump which is placed behind the timing belt so they sensibly recommended to get that replaced as well. The drivers side door turned out to be the biggest hassle. The problem was a 2 foot metal rod that needed to be replaced, but Subaru no longer made the part. They called shops all over the mainland looking for the part for me but could not locate one, which they informed me of. I was able to find a junk part down in Keaau and they happily installed the part for me.

First time buying a car from a dealership, Spencer Southwell was our salesman. Spencer really did take care of us. We didnt feel pushed, or ignored at all. He made sure we got something that we could afford, and also made sure we got something safe & reliable for years to come. Big Mahalo to Wayne Deluz, Spencer Southwell & the Financing Team at Mazda for taking care of us on our first car buying experience. Definitely reccomend them for all your car shopping needs. WORSE DEALER/STAFF EVER: Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. Unfriendly counter staff, ignorant managers, poor quality service. Took my Mazda in for an oil change and tire rotation. Car needed some kind of software upgrade but nobody could tell me for what, or how long it would take. Four hours later, after a confrontation with auntie at the service desk, and some bozo pretending to be a mananger we drove away. Had I known Mazda service on this island was this bad, I would have bought a Honda.

The Service Department has always been friendly and helpful regarding both of my Subarus, a 2005 Impreza and a 2017 Forester! I just got back from taking my 2017 Forester in for its 12,000 mile service and they completed it for less money than the dealer who I purchased it from on the mainland! They were very helpful and pleasant regarding a warranty item that came up recently also! Very happy to have them service my Subarus!

This is an excellent and ethical dealership with a wonderful sales team.My experience was a little unusual. I moved to Hawaii recently, and when my family and I arrived at the Airport, we found that the car rental place would not honor our reservation and we were unable to get a taxi, because taxi drivers did not want my two year old and a car seat (which we had) in their car. We worked through options for quite a while when I finally thought to call a used car dealership.I called Big Island Motors in Kona, and Myya came in to save the day. She not only came to the Airport to take me to the dealership, but also stayed two hours late. In addition to all that, she gave me a very fair deal on the car I purchased, and checked in on my family and I to make sure we were doing well. We had such a good experience that we called Myya when we were ready to purchase my wifes car, and she sold us her car at a fair price as well.The cars we purchased were highly rated, and after driving our cars for over a month and taking them for inspection at a mechanic, I can say they seem to be very reliable and well maintained.I absolutely recommend this dealership and Myya to anyone who is considering purchasing a new or used car on the Big Island.

This should be zero stars. Worst dealer on the island. Go anywhere but here. Salespeople lied, sales manager lied. You cant get treated worse than you would be by Big Island Motors. Even Craigslist is better.Form letter responses to negative reviews, almost a month after I walked out of a bad deal and Chuck Furtado wont respond to contact me Id like to discuss your bad experience. Go anywhere else than Big Island Motors. No Aloha and no Mahalo here. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Experian and Equifax.
