Phenomenal customer service, pricing, and product! We were in a pinch and in need of a portable generator, United helped us out with a great generator and incredible weekend rental pricing. Will 100% use them for any other rental needs.

I rented two six foot sections of Baker scaffolding in April, 2020 from the Ailor Ave. location in Knoxville. After putting it together (to change out a light fixture in a foyer with an 18 foot ceiling), I realized they did not include safety rails for the sides and ends. The two sections were extremely shaky - even one section was pretty shaky when I was putting on the second section. I went ahead and used it for the light installation as there was a catwalk on the second floor that was fairly close to the scaffolding, but I had to move very, very slowly and deliberately on the scaffolding as it was very unstable feeling. I then took it down and took it over to the other daughters house for their ceiling fan installation - another 18 foot ceiling. This was out in the middle of the floor and there was no way my son-in-law or I would get out on it when there was nothing at all to hang on to. United had already closed for the day, so I called the next morning to ask why it didnt have rails and why it was so shaky. The call was apparently diverted to another location. That employee told me that not only did United not have handrails for Baker scaffolding, the manufacturer didnt make them. I found that difficult to believe, but decided to rent a third section just to use the side braces to improve the steadiness and provide side rails. When I got back to United, I saw they had hand rails next to the other scaffolding, so I asked about it. They rent the hand rails and stabilizing braces separately from the scaffolding, so I switched the rental from the third section to the hand rails. The scaffolding was much more stable and the hand rails added a much-needed level of security, but I had to keep the scaffolding and the trailer to haul everything another day. After getting billed for two days for the scaffolding and one day for the hand rails and stabilizers, I called and talked to Brett about the fact that no one suggested or mentioned that the hand rails and stabilizers were available for rent, much less suggest that it might be a good idea to get them, and that I would not have had to have the scaffolding (or trailer) for a second day if someone had made me aware of their availability. Brett commented that it was important to do sufficient research on renting equipment before it was rented. I suggested that employees would be in a lot better position to know what was needed and available for renters since renters probably dont rent things like scaffolding all that often. The best he would do was a $30 credit towards another rental, but the scaffolding was $54 per day. Oh, and Brett suggested that maybe the scaffolding wasnt assembled properly, since hes been on a set at 6 feet and there were no stability problems. Yeah, well, you would have to work pretty hard to assemble it incorrectly and be able to stand on it. I probably should just call him back and tell him to forget the credit, as I wont be renting from them again. Just from a safety standpoint, I would think that they would want to let renters know that anything above 6 feet will necessitate stabilizers and the hand rails (and even 6 feet felt pretty risky).
