While their food and service at the restaurant are above standard, I can not say the same about their catering. Growing up with a father who attended culinary school at Johnson and Whales University, you come to expect a certain quality of food. With that being said, my little sister had Sarahs on The Square cater her wedding on 10.23.21. The menu: Salad, prime rib, chicken thighs, mashed potato bar and rolls. The salad looked fantastic, dressing was placed on the table which would have been fine if it had been in an appropriate serving dish. The Prime Rib (my absolute favorite meat) unfortunately was not cooked at all how it was requested. Most of our family likes theres on the rare side, all of the prime rib was well done. The Chicken Thighs were great, still tender and juicy. The Mashed Potato Bar, fantastic with the exception of the set up. When setting up a buffet with 2 sides, toppings should always be set up on both sides. No one should be expected to reach across a 4 foot table or go to the other side to getting toppings. The Rolls, while served with super cute butter balls, they were ICE COLD and not even cooked all the way. This brings me to the very last issue, the meal for the mother in-law. As my sisters mother in-law has diet restrictions, there was a special plate for her. They forgot it!! By the time her meal had arrived everyone had finished eating.

Sarahs is one of those small town places you love to see. Wonderful service from local employees and homey food cooked in house. I stopped in on my way through Gainesville and ordered a few things. Everything was good but nothing blew me away, plus the price was fair. If I ever go back through I might stop by.

I found this restaurant by reading reviews on Google Maps. We do not live in the area but were driving through and needing a good place to eat. My wife had the beef short ribs ($17). They were excellent and the bone cleanly came off. They were tender and everything was season well. They were served long creamy potatoes that accompany the beef well. The carrots were just a little bit under done and the mushrooms were excellent. She would recommend this dish to anyone. I had the chicken fried steak ($17) with mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was tender and very nicely fried with a crispy exterior. For my taste, I would have preferred a little bit more salt on each item but some people may argue that. I enjoyed my meal. The boys had mini corn dogs which I had just assumed would be boxed corn dogs ($5.50) but they were actually homemade and very delicious. The brownie was good and not overly sweet, which we prefer. The wait staff was very pleasant and thoughtful and topped off the evening.

I had the beef short ribs and they were perfectly done. Seasoned well, not too much. The beefy flavor really was apparent. Potatoes creamy and accompanied beef well. Mushrooms were great! Carrots were slightly underdone for me, but such a great meal!!!

Really good lunch experience. I had the combo and tried the half of a California Club sandwich and a cup of the Tomato Gin Bisque. The sandwich was perfect with generous amounts of bacon and avocado. The soup was very tasty with chunks of tomatoes and onion and bacon of course. The little bit of gin in the name was in the flavor but not overwhelming. My wife had a grilled chicken salad. She loved that the chicken was freshly cooked and not from frozen out of a bag. The portion was bigger than expected and I had to help her finish it. The Greek dressing was really good too. We managed to save room for dessert and split a slice of German Chocolate cake. It was excellent and my wife said she could tell it was definitely baked on site. Very good all around.

Exceptional service. To notch food. I had the chicken fried steak which is hand dipped at the restaurant to ensure a crispy experience with every bite. The steak itself appears to have been marinated as it didnt take away from the flavor of the entree. I also had a double order of bacon infused green beans which also didnt disappoint.My sister had the soup and sandwich combo consisting of tomato bisque and grilled cheese on sourdough. I sampled the sandwich and would definitely write home about it. She admitted to looking the bisque.For dessert we indulged in buttermilk chess pie and cream cheese sopapilla. There is not one crumb left.For take away a Ruben sandwich was ordered to take to out dear beloved mother. Based on our experience so far we think she will be exceedingly pleased.What review doesnt talk about the restroom, this mens room was very today and clean and smelled good too. With nice touches.I would easily travel this distance from Bowie to experience this again and again.

What a great lunch we had today, as we always do every time we visit Sarah’s! The staff were extremely busy but handled the very busy lunch crowd beautifully. The chicken spaghetti is so creamy, and the Sarah’s salad is the perfect compliment. Thank you for another great meal in downtown Gainesville!

We hired Sarahs on the Square to cater our son and daughter-in-laws rehearsal dinner. We could not have been more pleased! Donna went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect for the dinner. She met with me several times to discuss the menu and changes---and was so friendly. She and her staff were so professional on the night of the event. We had so many compliments on the meal! If you need a caterer, or just want to eat at her restaurant, we highly recommend Sarahs! You wont be disappointed.

Our waitress Maddy was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful we had chicken friend steak and their meatloaf.

We arrived not long after they had opened and were seated promptly. The waitress was quick to take our drink order and after bringing the drinks to us was quick to return to take our food order as well as keep our glasses topped off. All of the food was cooked good with good flavors and no one had any problems with having to leave still hungry! We tried a couple of desserts that I failed to take pictures of but they were equally as good. All the staff we encountered was friendly and we overall enjoyed our meal and would recommend trying this place out to everyone!

Sarah’s is our go to restaurant when visiting Gainesville. The service staff is friendly and the food is great. My favorite dinner starts with the crab cake appetizer, followed by the ravioli in lobster/crab sauce. It’s also hard to beat the special burgers and perfect side of fries.

Had a horrible experience with the waiters here. We got sat down at our tables by the hostess, we waited a good 30 minutes and no one came by to get our drink order or nothing. We stayed sitting down and another group got sat down and got their order and drinks taken care of even handed them a menu. We asked for a menu and got yelled at by the waiter and was told we had to calm down and stop screaming. Horrible horrible experience McDonald’s has better customer service even though their ice cream machine is always broken.

We made an hour road trip to try this place. It was worth it.We started with the chips and queso. The queso was good, and the chips were great - probably the best tortilla chips Ive ever had. My burger was tasty: the homemade bun was a little sweet and the pesto mayo was incredible if you like pesto. Im also not a fan of sweet pickles, but the horseradish pickles were good - I ate them all. The fries were thick, homemade, and tasty. My friend enjoyed his Reuben; he said the ratio of rye, corned beef, and sauerkraut is just right with the thousand island dressing being top notch. My other friend said his chicken fried steak is one of the best hes ever had, and hes a cfs aficionado. I tried a bite, and I liked the ratio of steak to breading - favoring the steak.Three of us ordered the lemonade, and we all agreed its the best lemonade weve drank in a long while. The desserts were good too, but we enjoyed the entrées more.

An absolute gem. I really liked the atmosphere and appreciated the spacious seating options. Everything ordered was great from the salad, lunch entrees, and down to the deserts. Our waitress, Londyn, could not have been more phenomenal. I highly recommend eating here!

Had the quesadilla, Sweetie had the meatloaf, mashed taters and side salad. Mine is large, but went down soooooo nice. Spicy sour cream was a nice surprise, with guacamole and picante sauce. Tasty all around. Be back soon.

I got the lunch special. 1/2 a sandwich and a cup of soup. I chose grilled cheese on sourdough and corn crab soup. My companion ordered a turkey burger without cheese with spicy mustard and house made chips. Water and coffee to drink. Coffee was good my cup was full hers was not. Maybe 3/4 full. My grilled cheese was delicious. Soup was kinda bland and very full of potatoes not much crab. Turkey burger came without mustard at all. In spite of asking twice if she wanted mustard. Chips were old and served without any perceived salt. Our first visit. I live within walking distance. I know the city wants a Austin like enviroment and desire people to live close in. My biggest complaint. we dont take Amex. Sorry dear thats all I have for payment. No where in the restaurant or the front door do they state this. Updated owner responded with. Its mentioned in the menu what from of payments we take. Put it on the door. Then I would not have wasted my time having to make a second trip to pay.

Todays special was Mississippi Pot Roast. There was something special...not sure what...that bumped this even over my homemade. Never EVER skip dessert when you go to Sarahs. The Italian Creme cake is the best anywhere. Hank was the best - she offered service above the usual.

This is supposed to be the best place for salads in town, as a recommendation from multiple non-Vegan people, yet there is almost no variety and enough quantity of vegetables.Almost all of the salads have meat, cheese and egg by default, even when their in-person menu didnt show it would come with cheese. The cheese was impossible to pick out. There are no true Vegan dressings offered, so it would also be a dry salad. The croutons are also not Vegan.The salad w/ the most variety of veggies (Greek salad) after the cheese and dressing is gone, comes w/ only 4 different veggies on top of lettuce (black olive, red onion, cucumber, grape tomato...and banana pepper which a lot of people dont eat.).Theres no place for a good salad in town with all the variety (as of yet) for Vegans, yet this is the best Gainesville has to offer for salads? I dont think so!Think Salata.No Vegan soups at Sarahs, much less entrees. A fries appetizer doesnt count.I went more than 5 years ago...the offerings for Vegans are still non-existent there today (despite voicing concerns over this previously), and its the 21st century, which is sad people are supporting animal exploitation.Theres Veganism and then theres animal exploitation. Theres no third option.Ive seen non-Vegans high school classmates recommend this place to meetup but they have never analyzed the menu from a Vegan perspective or even think about these things: Veganism is not a diet, its an ethics system.I definitely would not recommend and unless the menu significantly changes to acknowledge the harm eating animals does to our health, the planet, world hunger, our ethics and logic systems, and our environment, by including nutritious variety and good quantity of plant foods for the price, will not be back.There is a Vegan version for everything on the planet. Its just offensive, anytime for real health and plant lovers, to hear that this is the best Gainesville, TX has to offer. If thats the healthiest/best, then this town is in serious trouble.

Terrible service not welcoming, didnt acknowledge when walking through door, sat ourselves, noone came, two white males customers walked in they recieved menus and welcomes, when we asked for menus we were told to give them a minute as they were busy. Not welcoming towards latinos at all avoid this placeRe: So not only did we get bad service but now you try to cover your back by tryibg to justify the service we recieved by saying another table stopped the server for questions. That doesnt justify us sitting there for a long period of time with no one even acknowledging we were there. My party only responded rudely when other customers walked in and they recieved immediate service completely different from what we recieved. Our actions as well as yours arent justified, but atleast own the fact that we werent treated as customers should and that your restaurant was rude, and for the fact the servere did say in a loud and rude voice Give us a minute we are busy but had time to attend to customers who came in AFTER US. You say this wasnt discrimination simply just a business who was busy, yea try again.

Very quaint local eatery. Waitress gave us a brief history of the building and we were informed upstairs is a bed and breakfast and we were encouraged to go take a look. So cute! Food was good, I had the ultimate grilled cheese on sourdough (you get a choice between 4-5 different breads when you order a sandwich) and added avocado. Was served with your choice of homemade chips, French fries or sweet potato fries. I went with the sweet potato. Hubby had Crab/corn chowder with a half pimento cheese sandwich and also really enjoyed his meal. Would love to come back and try some of their other traditional comfort foods such as meatloaf and chicken fried steak. A charming little gem with fun history if you happen to be in Gainesville :)

This is a delightful place in a great little town. My favorite item is the Tomato and Gin Bisque Soup! I love the Fried Green Beans and the Smashed Potatoes. Although I am a mostly plant-based diet guy, I did have the Chicken Fried Steak and it was magnificient! This is a great experience and couldnt wait to get there a second time. You will feel the same once you have tried it out!

Amazing place, has a history behind those walls, the food is wonderful. My suggestion to start is queso and chips and as mainly dish the quiche.... Of course the dessert cant be out... There are cheesecake sugar free and Sarahs cake.

We were disappointed to find the famous Fried Pie Restaurant had gone out of business. That restaurant put Gainesville on the map. Everyone recommended Sarah’s. We gave it a try and it was okay. They can’t seem to decide between chic and home cooking. As a result, they do neither well. My wife tried chic, I tried home cooking. They brought two platters, no garnish, no bread, no extra seasoning....nothing. Two platters with average taste for more than $30.00. I officed in downtown Dallas for decades and that price is a bit steep for lunch in downtown Dallas! Next time we stop in Gainesville we will try one of the chains (Chili’s or Texas Roadhouse). Oh yes, the server was nice but not attentive.

The crabcakes and salmon were absolutely delicious!!! Will definitely go again when Im in the area!!!

We were driving through and looking for lunch somewhere. How fun to find this local gem. Service was thoughtful, menu varied and we really enjoyed our selection. We liked the simplicity of the house chips and I had to try the corn and crab chowder which had wonderful flavor.

Really loved Sarahs! The crab cakes were probably our favorite thing there, the sauce on them was fantastic. We also had the Prime Rib and Lobster & Shrimp Raviolis which didnt disappoint in the least. The Prime Rib absolutely melted in your mouth, it was tender and cooked to perfection. The Ravioli was rich and full on flavor. Id absolutely try any of these again.

We were just driving through and decided to stop by here based on awards and reviews. 11/21/2020It was a beautiful space and the food was very good. The staff was pleasant and the owner very kind. The only issue we had was a customer complaining about mask wearing. SHE wasnt wearing a mask and her husband was. Yet she felt it was her right to confront a staff member with a medical condition who was not covering her nose. I truely wish I had stepped into the conversation. Someones health is their own responsibility, and like the sign posted on the door, she was asked to wear her mask until drinks were served and curb-side pickup IS offered. Besides that fellow customer issue I highly recommend this restaurant. The Monster Quesadilla is fantastic, the atmosphere beautiful, and waitstaff friendly. Prices were reasonable.

Sarah’s is that special rose among thorns for those that appreciate a warm smile, timely service, honest wine, and excellent cuisine in a warm setting that has a quite interesting history! The salad was well handled and the salmon perfectly prepared and presented. So very happy to have stumbled upon my new favorite place. Do try!!!
