I was happy with my visit overall. I got a nice hat and the selection of hats was the best Ive seen anywhere in Lake Charles. I also picked up a couple knifes. They were reasonably priced and had a whole side of an aisle to choose from. They also carry the brands that I do tend to buy and enjoy. My only dislike about the visit was I had hoped to buy a new pair of shoes, specifically some Converse. I know that they used to carry them at one time but its been a lil minute since Ive been to academy and since then they have ceased to carry them and the only shoe that was my style wasnt available in my size. Besides that little disappointment, they have a very friendly staff and the cashier that checked me out was very helpful. Great experience and will be back.

Awesome places to get outdoor stuff I shop here a lot for fishing gear so never disappointed I almost always have what I need. I recently had a falcon rod break $100 rod and I lost my receipt paid with cash and one of the managers allowed me to swap the ride out something they dont do very often so highly recommend this academy very good people.

I am so disappointed with Academy. Ive been a customer for over 20 years and get 80% of my summer wardrobe from there. Not anymore! Academy in Lake Charles first sold me two right shoes, after driving home an hour away I had to turn around and go back. Exchanged them for more expensive shoes because they didnt have anymore of the shoes I wanted in my size. After wearing them ONE time they are obviously defective and thread is coming undone. So I go to return them within my 30days and I cant because theyve been worn once. Why would I buy something if I wasnt going to wear it? I was rudely told Academy didnt make the shoes, so contact Nike not them. Lol YOU SOLD THEM TO ME AND LOST A LONG TIME CUSTOMER!

Highly commend the gun department. A customer pulled out a pistol and put it on the counter and said he needed a holster for it. First thing the academy worker did was calmly took the loaded mag out and check the chamber. Of course a bullet came out of the chamber. Top notch safety.

Probably the best Academy location in South Louisiana is the Lake Charles store. That is certainly the case, right now at least, and I can say that with near certainty because I have recently visited many of the locations along i10/i12 between Nola and L.C.. It was packed with merchandise. Was bigger selection than most of the other Academy stores. The staff was mostly helpful and the gentlemen behind the reel bar were friendly and knowledgeable.

I mean its academy. I cant stand the prices but I suppose that isnt really their fault. Like all academies it offers a wide variety of things from fishing, to camping gear, shoes, clothes, guns, exercise equipment, sports equipment, hunting gear, the list goes on. Their dressing rooms seemed to be open. Didnt really like how the employees I guess stocking the shelves will walk right up on you, like feel their breath on your neck (I get theyre trying to work but it felt rude and made me uncomfortable). The store was cleaned and organized though. The cashiers were super friendly and efficient.

Find most anything you want for outdoors! Got some new camping gear from here a few months back and they seem quality made items.

I normally love Academy, but the lady that waited on us was extremely rude, I spent (for the 3rd) time this Christmas nearly $400.00. I will never again go to where Im treated like that. I was purchasing t-shirts from a 9.99 rack. They rang up a different price. I went to the back took a picture of the rack of shirts and showed her. She insisted that it was 9.99 to 19.99 very rudely.. She said its this price you want them or not. I was so shocked i just went ahead and said yes. I was also buying an expensive game camera that was on sale (my second one of this Christmas season) She rolled her eyes at me when I NICELY said that it was on sale. Slammed stuff down. She then asked someone to check that price, he told her the sale price right away. I tried to tell him about the t-shirts and he just walked off. Absolutely LAST time for me. Too many other stores. If they only knew how much I spend each year. I have 14 hunters, sports lovers, outdoor cooks, fishing lovers, college and pro football lovers. They lost a lot from me and my family.

This place is amazing. They have a great variety of high quality sporting goods and rather you want to get work boots or a fishing pole . They have a good selection of fire arms to hunt with and to practice your second imminent right . They are very helpful and knew the product they sold.

Went for toddler baseball pants but they did not have any. Which was okay. I ended up buying myself some active shorts and sports bra that fit amazing and are super comfortable 👌. Totally recommend our Academy store!

The store was well kept and the associates were very nice, but was a little taken back by the lack of selection of firearms and ammunition. Dont know if it is due to the pandemic or the demand for such items, all in all still a great place to shop.

Today, Sunday, October 24, I wanted to go to renew my fishing license, I arrived at the cashier and when I gave him the old license to renew the new one, he asked me if I was a resident of the United States, I do not understand why you have to ask one, is this how you can present an ID a passport I have my papers in order but it does not seem fair

Fast service, friendly help, professional service. Just wished there was a better way to get pistol ammo. If you purchase a pistol there just recently seems like you would be on top of list for ammo rather than first come first serve. What good is a gun with no ammo. If there is a better way to get ammo now I would love to know how.

The lines are ridiculously long every time you go into this academy. Online says things are in stock and then when you get there its not in stock and they have none available inside the store.

Was able to find what I was looking for but there was a long line at checkout, not enough cashiers. Waited in line about 15 minutes in checkout.

Worst academy store, Never have enough cashiers. If you need to buy anything, you better add 30 minutes wait time to be able to check out. Theres usually more greeters than cashiers.

Compared to other Academy stores this one is quite a bit better. Most look like a bomb has went off in apparel section but the LC store has figured it out.

Christmas shopping is so crazy, but to get in line and the hanger says one size while tag inside is totally different. Not great then getvin line and stand for 45 minutes grrr.Over all always like the store other then holidays.

Love the store except when its time to checkout. Another store that just refuses to open up more registers no matter how long the checkout lines get

I should have known it was too good to be true! I found a pair of Bobs marked down to $6.24! When I got up front to check out there was 2 left shoes in the box and of course neither myself or the guy in the shoe department were able to find a single right shoe much less 2 which clearly there should have been! Someone didnt do a very good job at checking the shoes because it seems like someone got 2 right shoes! On the other hand Im glad the woman checking us out noticed it before I ended up with them as I was going to give them to my daughter as a surprise!

If youre a man you like this store. Im sure there are many ladies out there that like it too but we got to claim this one for us guys. ladies the mall

Always out of fishing baits but that is my only complaint. great service and everything else is pretty good. Just always out of tackle and bullets.

Academy has a great selection of merchandise & great prices on goods throughout the store. The only set back is that they never have enough checkers. There was only 1 person checking out customers and two people working in customer service. I was going to buy a new lid for my husbands yeti cup. We were in line for 20 minutes. My husband told me to put down the unpurchased item & we walked out the door. When we left there was still patrons in front of us & a long line behind us. He said he would rather do without a lid than be as subjected to that line.

Its the best Academy in Lake Charles (TIC) 😎 It is a smaller store than in some of the surrounding markets. They have a fairly nice selection of merchandise in just about everything. The quantity of popular sizes is usually not very high so sometimes it is a challenge to find jeans or other items in your size. I dont have extremely long legs but finding 34 length jeans is a challenge. Also finding the popular and nice looking work boots in steel toe can be a downright adventure. And last but not least its just a matter of time before they go to self checkouts. You will see 25 people working with 1 register open, maybe 2 if you are lucky. There is much room for improvement in the Academy retail model.

My experience was very good I walked in and was immediately greeted. I went in there to return a pair of Nike shorts that I got in the wrong size and they were very quick and professional. As I was browsing the shelf a worker walked up with a smile and asked how I was doing and if they could help in any way with what I’m looking for. The workers are always happy to help with a smile and good attitude always no matter what weather it’s finding the right size, returning something, shoe sizing, or asking a question they are always happy to help especially Julie (Juju). They are very nice people, professional, and always happy to help.

Had a to wait a bit for curbside pickup. It was however, black Friday and the staff were quite apologetic and friendly. A good experience overall.

They usually have what you are looking far in stock and if not and you ask an employee they will tell you when the next truck will be there and what time you should check back

Its Academy.......no complaints.
